A mountain of medical bills can make recovery difficult. Collection calls, letters and the threat of legal action may be more than you can bear.

Your first thought might be to call one of those debt settlement companies that advertise on television. However, most of those companies have excessive fees and woeful success rates.

Fortunately, these charitable organizations serve Ohio residents that are facing medical bills and continued healthcare needs:

If you are facing debt from medical bills, credit cards and even loans, you may receive free counseling through Vision Credit Education. To qualify, you must be an Ohio resident. Call (800) 379-4720 for an assessment of your situation.

If you have family counseling needs in addition to your medical bills, then Graceworks Lutheran Services may be able to help. Call (937) 643-0020 in Dayton.

There are two medical billing advocates located in Ohio that are members of Medical Bill Advocates of America:
